| Technique: Florals on Oriental Papers |
I began Panache by crinkling then ironing flat a sheet of Japanese masa paper. Next I sprayed the paper with water and applied a light wash of watercolor paint. After the paper dried, I began the technique of negative painting, again with watercolor paint, using the veins in the crinkled paper to guide me in discovering floral patterns as they emerged.
I built the painting’s design in layers, working from the bottom up, allowing each layer to dry before looking again at what had revealed itself.
Finally, I applied a layer of fibered unryu paper and completed the painting, using liquid acrylics.
